About the Program
The Car Heaven program was launched by the Clean Air Foundation in July 2000 to accelerate the retirement of old, higher-polluting vehicles and to ensure that vehicles are recycled in an environmentally responsible manner.
To date, Car Heaven has successfully engaged tens of thousands of drivers across Canada to retire their old clunkers. In addition to the reduction of thousands of tonnes of greenhouse gases, carbon monoxide (CO), and smog-causing emissions, Car Heaven has also raised over $1.2 million for affiliated charities across Canada.
Car Heaven was first launched in the Greater Toronto Area, with help from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment’s Drive Clean Office and the Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association in 2000 and expanded across Ontario in 2001. In 2004, Car Heaven was launched in Calgary and Edmonton, and in 2005 the program grew to Vancouver. In 2006 Car Heaven expanded to the Atlantic Provinces, Québec and the Vancouver program is now across British Columbia.
Car Heaven aims to help Canadians reduce their personal impact on the environment by providing a better choice for their old, higher-polluting vehicle. For complete program details please view the legal information.
