Cadillac Sixteen

The winner of Best Concept Award at the 2003 North American International Auto Show, the Cadillac Sixteen continues Cadillac's dominance of this category (Cadillac Cien was the 2002 winner). The heart of Sixteen is a 13.6 litre XV16 concept engine using advanced technologies to create a mind-blowing 1000 horsepower. Sixteen's heroic exterior design is a homage to the luxurious Fleetwood coaches of the 1930s. Its interior appointments - using only the finest materials - recall a more elegant age. Invoking the best of Cadillac's past and using tomorrow's technologies, Cadillac Sixteen blazes a brilliant trail into a very bright future.

Technology and Performance

XV16 Concept Engine
The all-new Cadillac XV16 concept engine is just as groundbreaking today as the first 16-cylinder was when Cadillac introduced it over 70 years ago. Sixteen's all-aluminum engine weighs significantly less than many V8s and has fewer parts than any DOHC V8 on the market. XV16 generates an incredible 1000 hp and a massive 1000 lb.-ft. torque. GM's Displacement on Demand technology allows the engine to run seamlessly on eight or even four cylinders to maximize fuel savings.

Aluminum Construction
GM engineers used lightweight aluminum to minimize the overall weight of the Sixteen and optimize performance. Its engine, body structure, body panels, exterior details and wheels are all aluminium. The body structure is like a human skeleton. A combination of formed-aluminum sheet and tubular extrusions forms the central backbone. The "spine" serves as a conduit for all of the vehicle's control systems, its exhaust and driveshaft. This innovative construction weighs about 50-percent less than a comparable steel construction.
